The Competence Centre for Plastics Technology

On 22.06.2005 together with numerous representatives from business, politics and science, our second location Merseburg Innovation and Technology Center II  was inaugurated in ValuePark ® Schkopau.

The complex mitz II with integrated Fraunhofer Pilot Plant Center for Polymer Synthesis and Processing PAZ is a common project of mitz GmbH and the Fraunhofer Society. It is a successful example of living collaboration between applied research, industry and politics. It was practiced the first time in this manner. The project mitz II with the integrated pilot plant center (building investment: € 8.3 million, investment in equipment: € 15.85 million) was enabled through the support of the shareholders of mitz GmbH as well as by the capital of Saxony-Anhalt, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the European Union.

The decisive reason for the establishment of the Fraunhofer Pilot Plant Centre in the new mitz II and thus in the region Merseburg-Querfurt is especially the presence of important plastic manufacturing companies and the closeness to recognized higher education institutions and institutions in the economy in Merseburg-Halle. It contributes to the further economic development and profiling of the region of Central Germany, which is highly characterized of chemical and plastic industry, into an international center of polymer development and processing.
